Today Toto is launching a new campaign in which Andy van der Meijde aka King Toto gets into a fight with ex-professional football player and rapper Mitchell Burgzorg, better known as Priester. There is also a role for football analyst René van der Gijp, who thinks his own.

The campaign has again been developed by advertising agency TBWA \ Neboko. A football talk show forms the backdrop for the campaign, in which Priester, himself a former professional football player at NEC and HFC Haarlem, among others, is a guest and disputes whether Andy van der Meijde can bear the name Koning Toto. Will Andy get knocked off his throne?

Arno de Jong, chief marketing officer at Nederlandse Loterij, says: “We are adding a new chapter to our longer-running Koning Toto series, again starring Andy as Koning Toto. In line with the current situation and with the necessary humour and perspective from René van der Gijp that you can expect from us. ‘

Patritia Pahladsingh, managing director at TBWA \ Neboko, adds: ‘Even though the football stadiums are empty, the talks about football continue unabated. At home at the table, between friends via WhatsApp and therefore also with talk shows on television. We are responding to that with this campaign. ‘ The TV campaign was kicked off last Friday evening on football program Veronica Inside. In the Netherlands, they can dream of the Koning TOTO commercials by now, but we have to say: we can appreciate them. Until they are repeated a thousand times, then they get annoying. Luckily, TOTO feels seamless when it’s time for a comedic refresh.

In previous Koning Toto commercials, we already saw Sjaak Swart, Royston Drenthe and the van de Kerkhof brothers. Those commercials can be seen on the website of VoetbalGokken.nl. This time, they have roped in René van der Gijp for an unparalleled cameo. Together with Andy van der Meijde, of course, the one and only emperor of the football predictions.

Rapper Priest

In the new commercial, he is distinguished by rapper Priester. Do you say who looks familiar to you? That may be true because this is Mitchell Burgzorg. You know him from football as a defender of NEC, Almere City, or those who closely follow the Bulgarian league of PFK Ludogorets and Slavia Sofia.
